Find us in the old Hotel Pessets building, with more than 150 years of family tradition.
Cafè Pessets is a combination of environments, combining Restaurant, Bar and Deli.
Ours is the Slowfood – Km0 philosophy.
Tapas, also called platillos, made with the best, freshly produced local ingredients. The desserts, always prepared in our own open kitchen, are the result of our search for the outermost purity in the most classical recipes. A wide variety in the wine list, many of them from the Subzone Pallars in the Costers del Segre DO (Denomination of Origin).
A wide ranging list of herbal teas and infusions, organic fruit juices, fair trade coffee, international and locally produced beers, wines, organic orxata, and all of them to be enjoyed with the cake of the day.
Wines, cheese from the different artisan cheese producers in El Pallars (Casa Mateu, Tros de Sort, la Peça d’Altron, Formatgeria Montsent…), cured meats and sausages produced by the local butchers of Sort and the traditional Pallaresan spirits, the Ratafies.
We wish the Cafè to be a place where other activities which are not related to cooking and eating may take place. For this reason, there are often art exhibitions, concerts and the Tricotrà, a weekly meeting on Thursdays afternoons, starting at 17:00, guided by a professional who will teach the craft of crochet and knitting, a place to develop one’s creativity for any level of difficulty. There are also talks, screening of documentaries, the Dijondres (an evening meal-concert which is held occasionally on Thursday nights), the Sifò Musical (brunch with a music session by one of our local DJ’s locals, held occasionally on Sundays from 12 am). The open, airy room on the 1st floor is just perfect for any of the activities.
The first written reference to the Pessets Family and its dedication and commitment to the world of catering and restaurants goes back to 1864. In an old document, in some religious marriage chapters, the notary of Sort states that Mr Antoni Rafel i Viladomat is a cafeter, a job consisting in making and serving coffee. In the same document it is made totally clear that the Cafè Pessets already existed in1862 and probably some years before that.
From those times until the present days, 7 different generations have been running the business.
The Tricotrí was born in 2012 with the intention of choosing a specific time and place –on Wednesdays at 8 in the evening-, a day for the lonely Pallaresan to come round, meet others and chat. As an alluring invitation, the Cafè started proposing-and still does today- 2 savoury tapas -one of which is always vegetarian-, and a dessert, paired with a choice of two glasses of wine, (one red and the other white), with the aim of never repeating a dish. We have currently managed to turn Wednesdays into a little celebration where the Pallaresan of all sizes and colours get together.
